TRAVELLING THROUGH USA
On the 6th to 10th of february 2002 I attend a conference (LACEA) in Boulder/Colorado.
Afterwards I was travelling 15 days by train through the west of the USA. Therefore I
used the "West Rail Pass" of Amtrak,
wich allows all non US residents to travel very cheap with all trains. The reservation of the
trains I did at home, so I hadn't to worry about sold out trains.
The following report is more or less chronologic and is splitted in the following parts:
|
Hagen - Denver
I flew with "Deutsch Lufthansa" from Dortmund via Frankfurt to Denver. Boulder, the place
of the conference is an one hour busride from there. Because the only railway station in the
next surrounding is in Denver, I had to come back there before my round trip.

|
Denver - San Francisco
After staying overnight in Denver, the California Zephyer was taking me 36 h through
the rocky mountains to Emeryville and further more to San Francisco. In this town I
stayed two days.
|
San Francisco - Los Angeles
I took the Coast Starlight Express from San Francisco / Oakland to Los Angeles,
where I spend one day before making another small round trip. |
|
|
Grand Canyon & Las Vegas
Los Angeles was my starting point for a small trip to the Grand Canyon and
to Las Vegas. For this tour I mainly used Greyhound busses.
|
Los Angeles - New Orleans
After spending another night in Los Angeles (Venice Beach), I took the
Sunset Unlimited to New Orleans. The 48 h train ride was passing the desert,
the border to mexico and finally the green missisippi.

|
|
New Orleans - Chicago
I spend one and a half day in New Orleans before I was heading
north with the City of New Orleans to Chicagoe. |
Chicago - Dortmund
Chicago was my last town of the trip. I took a flight back home with a lot
of new impressions, experiences etc.

Remark:
The original slides looks much better, I didn't pay to much attention on the quality
scanning 200 pictures... If you want to see better slides you have to visit
